Established in 2000, Manneken Press publishes and exhibits original limited edition and unique prints, portfolios, artist’s books and works on paper by contemporary artists. Invited artists from around the world come to our studios in Bloomington, IL to create original works of art in intaglio, relief, lithography and monotype, working closely with master printer Jonathan Higgins. The works are printed by hand using traditional techniques and only the finest inks and papers.
Manneken Press exhibits at fine art fairs throughout the United States and has been the subject of several survey exhibitions. We have recently broadened the scope of Manneken Press to include additional works in our artist’s oeuvres that extend beyond prints, including sculpture and photographs.

The collaborative printmaking that is the raison d’etre for Manneken Press and
other print publishers has been affected in major ways in these past months. Health concerns and travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 crisis caused us to postpone artist visits that had been planned months previously and forced us to invent new ways to collaborate with artists to produce prints. The projects Manneken Press is presenting at this year’s fair by Kate Petley, Catherine Howe and Judy Ledgerwood have been made by long distance collaboration. Phone calls, email and digital pictures have replaced the usual in-person dynamics in the printmaking studio, and Fedex has been crucial for exchanging plates and prints. The results have been amazing and are a testament to the persistence of creativity even in dire times.
